Why Install Side Retention Outdoor Roller Blinds?

Outdoor roller blinds are a perfect solution if you want to shade windows or outdoor areas like balconies, patios and pergolas. While regular roller blinds work well here, blinds with a side retention system might be a better solution.
How do these blinds work and what are the advantages of using them?
How Does a Side Retention Roller Blind System Work?
A regular outdoor roller blind attaches from the top. It hooks into fittings or sits in a channel. The blind then hangs loose when it is open.
If you want to secure the blind, then you can add fixing accessories. For example, you can use straps to tie the sides of the base and bottom into place.
A side retention system has channels at the sides as well as at the top. When you unroll the blind, its sides slot down into these channels.
So, each side of the blind sits securely inside its channel recess. It is held in place down its entire length.
Why Install Side Retention Roller Blinds?
Roller blinds are an effective way to shade an area; they also act as a windbreak. However, regular roller blinds might struggle to stay in place in even mildly windy conditions.
The wind will blow the blind inwards and outwards. It won't be able to keep its position.
Even if you use straps to tie a blind at the sides and bottom, you leave gaps between each strap. The wind can get through these gaps.
So, the area you want the blind to cover could get too breezy and cold. The noise of your blinds flapping in the wind can get irritating. Plus, if you have gaps at the sides of your blinds, then they can't keep out insects, dust and dirt.
If you use outdoor roller blinds with a side retention system, then you solve these problems. The blinds fix down both sides as well as at the top.
Even if it is windy, the blinds should hold firm in their side channels. Your area gets the coverage you need.
So, with no gaps at the sides of the blind, you get complete shade and an effective windbreak. You won't leave spaces for pests or dust and dirt. If you add tie straps or bolts to the base of the blinds, you also won't have to worry about movement at the bottom.
